We often carry around with us the split off, unintegrated and unremembered pains and disappointments of our lives. These painful experiences typically cleave their way into our personalities in unintended ways that we don’t even realize. They can affect how we feel about ourselves, relate to others, and act in the world. Psychotherapy is the process of self-discovery, a way of reclaiming our painful experiences and making use of them to propel our lives forward in constructive and meaningful ways. Insight and understanding free us from the prison of the past and create the potential for new growth and experience in the present.
