Jacob Seiden, Psychotherapist
For many of us, life comes replete with challenges. Sometimes, the challenges we face appear in the areas of our lives that we expect them to — our professional pursuits, our careers, and our relationships with others, for example. Other times, they arise unexpectedly, impacting both our health and our wellness. While we are often able to overcome these obstacles successfully on our own, there may be times when we find ourselves wanting help in taking them on or adapting to a set of newly changed circumstances.
Psychotherapy is a process that a client and therapist can engage in together. It is designed to assist them in identifying and confronting the physical, mental, and emotional obstacles that may seem—at first glance, at least—too overwhelming or frightening to take on alone. Though it can be a challenging process in its own right, many that have participated in psychotherapy have found it to be rewarding.
Whether you are struggling with transitions in your life or work, acute or chronic illness, feelings of anxiety, grief, or depression, or difficulties in your relationships with others, my goal is to work with you to define the unique aspects of your situation and facilitate a thorough exploration of new ways of thinking, feeling, and engaging with the world. In the past, my clients have reported that our efforts helped them experience relief, joy, and hope, and assisted them in their journey to find greater meaning and freedom in their lives.
Before beginning work at Lakeshore Psychotherapy Group, I undertook clinical training at a site that provides therapeutic services to individuals impacted by cancer. While there, I gained experience providing both one-on-one and group therapy to adults who had been diagnosed with cancer and their spouses, partners, and caregivers. Prior to entering into this field, I practiced law as an attorney at a large, international firm in downtown Chicago, where I focused primarily on complex commercial, product liability, and patent cases.
